Welcome to the AA4RE mailbox V 2.13 Beta test
---------------------------------------------

This update was put together by Mike Fahmie/WA6ZTY, with the collaboration
of Bo Lindfors. The original author, Roy Engehausen AA4RE, is no longer
supporting or maintaining the system. I have been using his software for
quite a few years and kinda like it and didn't want to see it die due to Y2K.

If you are already running the version 2.13R or 2.13S, you do not have to
change any of your setup files, simply copy the .exe, .ovr, .doc, and .txt
files to your bbs directory overwriting the old ones. If you are running
earlier vintage AA4RE, I suggest that you read CONVERT.DOC for instructions
on updating your setup files.

The changes in this update provide Y2K support for years 1990 through 2047.
Due to timekeeping methods used in this program, it will require slight
modification every 60 years or so. :-)

We have started an AA4RE Users Group mailing list where sysops can ask
questions and share tips on running this software. The latest 4RE bbs
related software can be found in the FILES area.

-- Fixed WPAGE update generator, lacked blank line after subject
-- Fixed slow update from Clock Set command ("C")

The following text is from Roys last release

=============================================

The biggies are:
-- DPMI mode (breaks the 640K barrier)
  -- Binary messages (See ATTACH.DOC)
-- Added new parameter (HOLD_DUPLICATE_MIDS) which allows improved duplicate
checking without risk of losing a message (See PARMS.DOC)
*** I recommend you run with this set to "Y" ***

The following organizations have been helpful in producing this release:

-- Volunteeris in Technical Assistance (VITA), PO Box 12438,
     Arlington, VA, 22209.
  -- US Navy MARS
  -- Kantronics
  -- HAL Communications
  -- DSI
  -- RT Systems
  -- Paccomm

Conversion
----------

See CONVERT.DOC. Should be straight forward.

Documentation
-------------

Documentation is spread out in a number of file all ending in .DOC. I
do this to allow me to update them easily. I am not a very good tech
writer so things may be a little obscure. N4CHV has written some pretty
good documentation and should be contacted for copies. I don't have
them!

To my test users
----------------

Thank you for helping make 2.13 as good as it is. Your help is greatly
appreciated. Every hour of your testing makes my job one hour easier.

Usage, Registration, and Contributions
--------------------------------------

A question has come up as to the status of this program. It is free for
any use (commercial, noncommercial, governmental) but cannot be sold.
The copyright explicitly says this. The program is NOT public domain.
You can't take it, make some changes, and sell it as your own.

For those who worry about such things, I explicitly grant permission to
all Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES), Civil Air Patrol
(CAP), and Military Affiliate Radio System (MARS) organizations to use
these programs.

There is no need to register your copy with anyone. Enjoy!

I don't solicit contributions but any money you want to send will not be
thrown away. My own equipment is very limited and I depend on friends,
and companies to supply the different varieties of TNCs. See the note
above.

Unfortunately there are always a few exceptions to the rule. I reserve
the right to prohibit anyone or any organization from using this program
even if permission is granted elsewhere in this statement. I reserve
the right to charge anyone or any organization licensing fees (not
without notification, of course)

I also reserve the right to change this policy at any time.

Feedback
--------

Please keep those messages flowing in. My BBS environment here is not
the same as many of yours so I appreciate your suggestions. Many of the
features of this release were suggested by SYSOPs who I have never met.

(Note: As Roy is no longer supporting the program, send him your praise,
send me (WA6ZTY) your questions and bug reports.)

Roy Engehausen, AA4RE garlic@garlic.com (no longer on packet)
